ROCKLIN, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos women's basketball team trailed by eight at the half, but outscored William Jessup 42-9 in the second stanza as the Cougars prevailed 67-42 to earn their first win of the young season.
Sarah Jackson led all players with 16 points, while
Sherika Miller and
MacKenzie Harnett pitched in with 12 and 11, respectively.
Danielle Cooper registered a game-high 14 rebounds.
WJU (0-2) finished the first half with a 10-4 run to take a 33-25 lead. However, the Cougars opened the half with a 12-0 spurt, holding the Warriors scoreless for the first 7:56 of the second half.
WJU made its first field to make it 39-36 in favor of the Cougars with 11:01 remaining, but CSUSM responded with a 24-4 run over the next eight minutes to put the game out of reach.
CSUSM held WJU to 4-of-28 shooting in the second frame. Cooper and crew had their way with the Warriors in the paint, outscoring WJU 26-6 overall inside.
CSUSM (1-1) will travel to UC Merced Sunday to end its three-game road trip.
