Cougars Set for Clash with No. 4 Vanguard


SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos women's basketball team hosts No. 4 Vanguard before hitting the road to face Simpson (Calif.) and Menlo College over the weekend.

Cougars Lately
CSUSM enters the week on a three game slide after its 113-49 win over Arizona Christian on Nov. 13. The Cougars fell in their last game on Nov. 24 at No. 7 Westmont, 82-59. It is the first time the Cougars have dropped three straight in the program's young history.

Top 25 Tale
CSUSM will play its second-consecutive game a against a NAIA Top 25 team on Tuesday when the Lions come to town. CSUSM has played a total of seven games against ranked teams in its two seasons, going 1-6 in the process. Fourth-ranked Vanguard is tied for the highest-ranked team that CSUSM has ever faced. The Cougars fell to No. 4 Davenport last season in the opening round of the NAIA Tournament on Mar. 7, 2012.

Lions, Red Hawks and Oaks … Oh My!
The Cougars are a combined 1-2 all-time against their opponents this week. Vanguard, then No. 12, took down CSUSM 61-48 on Feb. 16, 2012. The Cougars are 1-1 all-time against Menlo, having beaten the Oaks by one in their first meeting on Dec. 19, 2012. Menlo downed the Cougars earlier this year, 73-57, on Nov. 17 at MiraCosta College. CSUSM and Simpson have never met.
