Second Half Surge Leads Menlo Over CSUSM

Box Score
OCEANSIDE, Calif. – Foul trouble and timely shots by Menlo College got the best of the Cal State San Marcos women's basketball team in the Cougars' 73-57 loss on Saturday night at MiraCosta College.

Sarah Jackson's scored 13, Sherika Miller had 12 and Mechel'la Logan pitched in with 11, but the Cougars could not overcome 24 turnovers and a poor shooting night against the Oaks.

The loss drops CSUSM to 3-4, while Menlo stays perfect at 5-0.

Tied 26-26 at the half, the Oaks started the second frame on a 13-4 run, capped by a three-point play by Jolise Limacaco.

Still, the Cougars battled back, holding the Oaks scoreless for a 3 ½ minute stretch to lead 44-43 with 11:05 left.

After the teams traded the lead, Limicaco scored on a fast-break lay-in before burying a three to make it 56-49. Jenna Marinaro swished a three the next trip down the floor to give the Oaks a nine-point advantage, and Limicaco hit another one to make it 65-54 with 3:31 left.

Menlo held CSUSM without a field goal the rest of the way, eventually extending the lead to 16.
