Jessica Johnson Commits to CSUSM Women’s Basketball

All-League post player signs on to play for the Cougars.

Jessica Johnson, a 6'1” post player out of Capistrano Valley High School, has committed to play her collegiate basketball at Cal State San Marcos.

As team captain this season, Johnson led Capistrano Valley to an 8-0 league record.  She was named Selected Sea View League MVP, averaging 10 points, 9.3 rebounds, and 2.1 blocks per game.  Johnson was selected as the Team MVP and Most Inspirational Player.

Johnson began her collegiate career at Santa Margarita High School, where she earned All-League honors in both her sophomore and junior seasons.  She was awarded the Athletic Scholar Award both years.

“Jessica is going to absolutely blossom in college,” said Head Coach Sheri Jennum.  “She is an excellent athlete and outstanding player, a terrific student, and is a caring and compassionate volunteer.   She has a very solid fundamental base to work from and tremendous potential.  I am so happy she chose CSUSM and very excited to work with her over the next four years!”

An active community service volunteer, she has worked with the boys and girls club as well as feeding the homeless and helping with the Special Olympics.  This year, she has helped organize a fundraiser for Pakistan flood relief.

Jessica has a 3.0 GPA and her major is currently undeclared.  Her parents are Venise and Jay, she has two brothers, Jayce and Jake, and a sister, Jolie.
