The Cal State San Marcos Women's Basketball team has had plenty of success knocking of NCAA opponents this season, but has been looking for a defining NAIA victory this year. That is, until now, as CSUSM rolled #12 Kansas Wesleyan 66-52 Friday afternoon.

The Cougars played solid basketball from nearly start to finish, playing solid defense and taking good shots while out-rebounding the Coyotes 39 to 26. CSUSM fell behind 14-6 early, but settled in after that and by halftime the Cougars held a comfortable 9-point lead.

San Marcos continued to pile on in the second half, leading by as much as 18, and only briefly did Kansas Wesleyan chisel down the deficit to single digits. CSUSM shot over  52% on the afternoon, while the Coyotes managed to hit only 30% from the field.

Gabrielle Munsch led the Cougars in scoring with 15 points on 7 of 10 shooting, and Justine Chacon added 11 points, 5 assists, and 3 steals. Danielle Cooper had another solid game as well, chipping in 8 points and 8 rebounds.

Cal State San Marcos moves to 9-11 on the season, and will have almost a week off before they face off against local rival Point Loma January 5th in San Diego.
