SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. – In an elimination game at the CCAA Tournament, the Cal State San Marcos baseball team (33-16) knocked out top-seeded No. 11 Cal State Monterey Bay (36-16) with an 8-4 victory on Friday afternoon at Fiscalini Field on the campus of Cal State San Bernardino.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Otters went up 3-0 in the bottom of the third on a two-run shot to left by Jordan Hockett and a Cougar error that allowed Bobby Benavidez to score.
- The Cougars cut the deficit to 3-2 in the top of the fourth with a two-run shot to left by Jake Larson.
- Monterey Bay went up 4-2 in the bottom of the fourth with a solo shot to left by Conner Smith.
- With the bases juiced and no outs in the top of the fifth, CSUSM took its first lead of the tournament at 6-4 on a grand slam by Zech Samayoa – his 20th homer of the season.
- The Cougars added some insurance runs in the top of the seventh with a two-run single by Michael Weber to go up 8-4.
- In the bottom of the seventh, Ben Pernetti took over in relief of starter Jack Clark and allowed just two hits while striking out three in the final 3.0 innings to earn the save and put the Otters away.

- CSUSM starter Jack Clark (7-1) earned the win after striking out two while allowing four runs (three earned) on five hits and three walks in 6.0 innings.
- CSUMB starter Daniel Flores (4-3) took the loss after allowing six earned runs on six hits and three walks while striking out five in 4.1 innings.

- Samayoa's grand slam was his team-leading third of the season and the team's sixth. He also notched his team-best 21st multi-RBI game.
