SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. – Falling behind early, the (RV) Cal State San Marcos baseball team (32-16) began the 2026 CCAA Tournament with a 12-6 loss to Cal Poly Pomona (29-21) on Thursday afternoon at Fiscalini Field on the campus of Cal State San Bernardino.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- CPP began the game with a 6-0 lead in the top of the first on a two-run double by Sebastian Arguelles and a grand slam by Tyler Blade.
- CSUSM cut the deficit to 6-1 in the bottom of the first with an RBI fielder's choice by Christopher Tampoya.
- The Broncos added a run in the top of the second with a solo homer down the right field line by Jack Sanders to make it 7-1.
- An RBI double by Murillo and a two-run single by Austin Duarte extended CPP's lead to 10-1 in the top of the third.
- A leadoff homer by Julian Angulo put the Broncos up 11-1 in the top of the fourth.
- CPP added another run in the top of the seventh with a sacrifice fly to center by Arguelles to go up 12-1.
- CSUSM's offense started showing signs of life in the bottom of the eighth as pinch-hitter Jake Larson hit an RBI single to short before later scoring on an infield error by CPP to make it 12-3.
- The Cougars tacked on their final runs in the bottom of the ninth on an RBI single to left center by Leighton Helfrick, an RBI double to right center by Larson and a wild pitch that scored Michael Weber to make it 12-6.

- Bronco starter Andrew Campbell (11-3) earned the win after striking out four while allowing an earned run on five hits, three walks and a hit-by-pitch in 6.0 innings.
- Cougar starter PJ Wendler (9-3) took the loss after surrendering 10 earned runs on eight hits and two walks in 2.0 innings while striking out two.
- Tampoya extended his reached-base streak to 22 games, tying fellow freshman Canon King for the longest on the team this season.
- This was the fifth consecutive game between the Cougars and Broncos as they ended the regular season with a four-game series last weekend.
- In CSUSM's six postseason games since 2024, the Cougars have fallen to CPP in three of them – twice at the CCAA Tournament and once at the NCAA West Regional.
