POMONA, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos baseball team (32-15, 19-13 CCAA) concluded its 2026 regular season by earning a series win over Cal Poly Pomona (28-21, 18-14 CCAA) and locking up the No. 2 seed at next week's CCAA Tournament with an 8-3 victory at Scolinos Field on Saturday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Scoreless after 3.5 innings, the Broncos changed that in the bottom of the fourth with an RBI triple down the right field line by Bryan Richman and an RBI single up the middle by Daniel Ruiz.
- The Cougars went up 3-2 in the top of the fifth with a sac fly by Michael Weber and a two-run homer to left by Rees Kent.
- Zech Samayoa extended CSUSM's lead to 4-2 in the top of the sixth with an RBI double to right center.
- CPP brought the deficit to one in the bottom of the eighth with a sac fly to center by Jack Sanders.
- The Cougars put the game away in the top of the ninth with a bases-loaded walk by Jake Callahan, an RBI groundout to first by Canon King and a two-run single up the middle by Victor Castaneda.

- CSUSM starter Luke Higgins (3-3) went the distance as he threw a complete game and earned the win on four strikeouts while allowing three runs (two earned) on five hits, two hit-by-pitches and a walk on just 98 pitches.
- CPP starter Matthew Leyva (3-6) took the loss after giving up four earned runs on eight hits and a hit-by-pitch while striking out three in 6.0 innings.
- This was CSUSM's first-ever series win against CPP.
- This is the second time in three years that CSUSM has finished the regular season second in the CCAA standings.
