POMONA, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos baseball team (31-15, 18-13 CCAA) split Friday's doubleheader against Cal Poly Pomona (28-20, 18-13 CCAA), winning the first game 13-6 before falling 7-6 in the nightcap at Scolinos Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- CPP jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first with an RBI single to left by Julian Angulo and a sacrifice fly to center by Tyler Blade.
- Zech Samayoa tied the game for the Cougars in the top of the third with a two-run double to center.
- The Broncos went back up by two in the bottom of the third with an RBI single from Blade and an RBI bunt single from Diego Murillo to make it 4-2.
- In the bottom of the sixth, CPP took a 5-2 lead on an RBI double to right center by Austin Duarte.
- CSUSM turned the game on its head in the top of the seventh with an eight-run inning on a bases-loaded walk by Rees Kent, an RBI single by Jake Larson, a bases-loaded hit-by-pitch to Canon King, another two-run double by Samayoa and a three-run homer by Stephen Espinoza to make it 10-5.
- CPP countered with an RBI single by Jack Sanders in the bottom of the seventh to cut its deficit to 10-6.
- The Cougars tacked on the game's final three runs in the top of the ninth on a sacrifice fly to right by Leighton Helfrick and a two-run single up the middle by Michael Weber to make it 13-6.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Cougars went up 2-0 in the top of the first on an RBI double to left center by Stephen Espinoza and an RBI single up the middle by Christopher Tampoya.
- The Broncos knotted the game in the bottom of the third on an RBI double down the left field line by Jack Sanders and an RBI single to left by Austin Duarte.
- CPP went up 5-2 in the bottom of the fourth on a sac fly to center by Daniel Ruiz, an RBI single to left by Sanders and an RBI single down the right field line by Julian Angulo.
- A historic feat was accomplished in the top of the fifth as Zech Samayoa launched a three-run blast to left for his 19th homer of the season, breaking Austin Way's 2008 single-season record of 18. After Samayoa tied the game, an RBI single up the middle by Michael Weber put the Cougars up 6-5.
- With the game getting late, the Broncos surged back ahead with a two-run double down the right field line by Angulo to take a 7-6 lead.
