Cougars Split Saturday Twinbill Against Wildcats

CHICO, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos baseball team (16-6, 3-4 CCAA) split its doubleheader at Chico State (15-14, 4-7 CCAA) on Saturday, winning the first game 4-3 before falling 9-2 in the nightcap at Nettleton Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Cougars put up a four-spot in the top of the first on a grand slam by Zech Samayoa with no outs.
  • The Wildcats cut their deficit in half in the bottom of the second with a sacrifice fly from Myles Cooper before an RBI single from Kobe Rolling to make it a 4-2 game.
  • Another Chico sacrifice fly by Wright cut CSUSM's lead to 4-3 in the bottom of the third.

  • CSUSM reliever Isaac Cota (1-0) earned the win after allowing no runs on four hits and a walk while striking out one in 2.1 innings.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Wildcats jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first with a two-run double down the right field line by Joel Gutierrez.
  • In the bottom of the third, Myles Walton stole home to put Chico up 3-0.
  • A five-run bottom of the fourth put the Wildcats up 8-0 after an RBI single from Michael Baker and a grand slam off the bat of Roman Roberts.
  • CSUSM ended the shutout in the top of the fifth with a two-run homer to center by Canon King.
  • Chico wrapped up the game's scoring in the bottom of the fifth with an RBI single up the middle by Keoni Coloma to make it 9-2.
