Cougars Drop Series to Coyotes

SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos baseball team (14-5, 1-3 CCAA) fell 11-1 in its series finale against Cal State San Bernardino (8-12, 3-5 CCAA) on Sunday afternoon at Dennis A. Pugh Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Coyotes posted two runs in the top of the first inning on an RBI single from Tyson Pettingill and a sacrifice fly by Juni Rodriguez.
  • CSUSB plated two more runs in the top of the fourth with a two-run double to right by Jeremy Giesegh, taking a 4-0 lead.
  • A two-out solo shot to right by Canon King cut CSUSM's deficit to 4-1 in the bottom of the fifth.
  • An RBI single up the middle by Dom Dominguez put the Coyotes up 5-1 in the top of the seventh.
  • CSUSB took an 11-1 lead in the top of the eighth on a pair of two-run homers by Garret Barto and Dominguez, an RBI double by Giesegh and a wild pitch that scored Pettingill.
 
QUICK HITS
  • CSUSB starter Harrison Cordeiro (1-1) earned the win after striking out three and allowing one earned run on three hits, a walk and a hit-by-pitch in 5.0 innings.
  • CSUSM starter Luke Higgins (1-1) took the loss after giving up two earned runs on three hits, two walks and two hit-by-pitches in 3.0 innings.
  • This was CSUSM's first series loss of the season.
  • Weber improved his hitting streak to seven games, tying for the longest by a Cougar this season.
