KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Cal State San Marcos men's soccer team was announced as a 2023-24 College Team Academic Award winner by the United Soccer Coaches, the organization announced on Thursday.
Head Men's Soccer Coach
Ron Pulvers saw his team post a 3.16 grade-point average, earning the Team Academic Award for the second consecutive season.
"Our program is a student-first model, and earning this award for the second consecutive year reflects the team's commitment to academic responsibilities," Pulvers said "They put the work in every day, in the classroom, on the field and in the community. I am so proud, and it is a special moment for them to see the tangible outcome of their collective work."
The Cougars were just one of two CCAA schools to earn the award.
"I am so proud of our men's soccer program for this amazing achievement," said Morod Shah, CSUSM Director of Athletics. "Last year was their first time achieving this honor and to follow it up with another award speaks to the commitment and excellence our student-athletes have to being scholar-athletes. We are proud of our student-athletes and coaches for continuing to raise the bar."
A total of 405 soccer teams (168 men, 237 women) posted a team grade point average of 3.0 or higher, thereby earning the United Soccer Coaches Team Academic Award for the 2023-24 academic year. Of that total, 102 schools had both their men's and women's programs recognized.
