SAN MARCOS, Calif. – Regan Barton of women's golf and Garrett Teunissen of baseball have been named the Cal State San Marcos Student-Athletes of the Month for April 2024.
 
The CSUSM Student-Athletes of the Month awards are determined through a vote of all Department of Athletics coaches, administrators and staff. Each in-season program nominates a student-athlete to be considered for the award each month.
 
Barton won CCAA Championship Individual Medalist honors with a 2-under 214 (70-69-75). She led wire-to-wire to claim her first collegiate tournament victory and clinched CSUSM's fourth individual title in five CCAA Championships. The redshirt junior also led the Cougars to their fifth team title with the largest stroke margin in tournament history.
 
Teunissen led CSUSM with 25 hits, six doubles, 22 RBIs, eight stolen bases and 37 total bases in April. He hit .373 with 13 runs, two homers, a .552 slugging percentage and a .419 on-base percentage. The junior had two three-hit games at Cal Poly Pomona and Stanislaus State while tallying seven multi-hit games. Teunissen had six games with multiple RBIs, including a season-best five RBIs with a double and home run against San Francisco State.
 
This is Teunissen's second consecutive CSUSM Student-Athlete of the Month honor and is the first for Barton.
