SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos baseball team (9-5, 8-1 CCAA) earned its eighth consecutive win with a 9-5 victory in the series opener against Cal State San Bernardino (8-9, 1-6 CCAA) on Friday at CSUSM Baseball Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Sommay hit a leadoff home run in the bottom of the first to center and put CSUSM up 1-0.
- CSUSB went up 4-1 in the top of the second with RBI singles through the left side by Jake Borst and Adrian Hinojosa before Riley Parker wrapped up the scoring with a two-run single to left.
- The Cougars cut the deficit to 4-2 in the bottom of the fourth with an RBI single to short by Mateo Lake.
- In the bottom of the fifth CSUSM retook the lead at 7-4 with an RBI single up the middle by Teunissen, an RBI single through the left side by Reece, a two-run single through the right side by Rivera and an RBI groundout to second by Cameron Mahaffy.
- The Coyotes gained a run back in the top of the seventh with an RBI double to right center by Garrett Macias and cut CSUSM's lead to 7-5.
- CSUSM went up 9-5 in the bottom of the seventh with an RBI single up the middle by Reece and an RBI single by Rivera down the right field line.
- Working with a four-run lead, CSUSM reliever Preston Kelly allowed nothing to get the final six outs on 25 pitches, inducing four groundouts and two fly outs to end the game.

- Cougar starter Roman Connolly (1-0) earned the win after striking out two and allowing four runs on eight hits and two walks in 5.0 innings.
