SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos baseball team (14-9, 13-5 CCAA) opened its series against No. 19 Cal State Monterey Bay (18-8, 14-4 CCAA) with a walk-off homer to win 4-3 before falling 7-2 in the second game of Friday's doubleheader at CSUSM Baseball Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Otters took a 3-0 lead in the top of the second inning with a two-run single up the middle by Kyle Barileau and an RBI single to right by Chase Lindemann.
- CSUSM cut the deficit to 3-1 in the bottom of the sixth with a two-out, pinch-hit RBI single down the left field line by Mauricio Guardado.
- The Cougars knotted the game at 3-all in the bottom of the second with a sacrifice fly to right field by Ethan Rivera that scored Teunissen before a Mahaffy triple in the next at-bat scored Reece.
- Still tied entering the bottom of the ninth inning, Reece led off and teed up an 0-1 pitch that went over the right field wall and secured the walk-off 4-3 victory for the Cougars.

- CSUSM reliever Preston Kelly (4-0) earned the win with two strikeouts while allowing nothing in an inning of work.
- CSUMB's Christian McInerney (0-1) took the loss as he allowed the walk-off homer while allowing one walk and getting one strikeout.
- Cougar starter Roman Connolly exited the game after 6.2 innings with six strikeouts while allowing three runs on five hits, two hit-by-pitches and a walk on 111 pitches.
- Otter starter Nate Rohlicek went 6.0 innings and struck out four while allowing one run on six hits, three walks and two hit-by-pitches.
- Sommay extended his hitting streak to 13 games and improved his reached-base streak to 17 games.

- The Otters took a 3-0 lead in the top of the second as JJ Engman hit a two-run double to left center before Chase Lindemann scored on an error on a throw back to the infield.
- CSUMB went up 5-0 in the top of the third with an RBI single through the left side by Sergio Solis and an RBI double to left center by Jacob Dressler.
- The Cougars cut the deficit to 5-1 in the bottom of the fourth on a sacrifice fly to left field that scored Cameron Mahaffy.
- In the top of the eighth, the Otters once again went up by five runs at 6-1 as Jaden Sheppard scored on a wild pitch.
- A solo home run by KW Quilici on the first pitch in the top of the ninth put CSUMB up 7-1.
- CSUSM wrapped up the scoring in the bottom of the ninth with an RBI single by Sommay that scored Chesterton and made it a 7-2 game.
