CHICO, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos baseball team (13-8, 12-4 CCAA) earned a series split against Chico State (13-8, 8-8 CCAA) with an 11-7 win in the series finale on Sunday at Nettleton Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Chico took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first as Alexander Johnson scored on a wild pitch.
- The bottom of the second saw the Wildcats go up 2-0 on an RBI single to right by Johnson.
- CSUSM knotted the game at 2-all in the top of the fifth on an RBI single to right by Reece before Cameron Mahaffy was hit by a pitch with the full of Cougars.
- A two-run double to left by Stefan Foley gave Chico the lead once again at 4-2 in the bottom of the sixth.
- The Cougars took a commanding 10-4 lead in the top of the seventh with eight runs on six hits and an error. Reece hit a two-run shot to left center before Chesterton went back-to-back with a pinch-hit solo shot of his own. A sac bunt by Niko Diaz and a Chico throwing error scored Ethan River to make it 6-4. Sean McGrew then knocked out a three-run, pinch-hit homer down the left field line to give the Cougars a 9-4 lead. CSUSM wrapped up the scoring at 10-4 with an RBI single to left by Rivera.
- CSUSM plated its final run in the top of the ninth with an RBI single to left by Reece to make it 11-4.
- Chico tried to make a last run of it in the bottom of the ninth with Elijah Pascual scoring on a double play before a two-out double down the left field line by Jeremy Keller cut CSUSM's lead to 11-7. The Cougars then secured the win on a groundout to second.

- Preston Kelly (3-0) earned the win for CSUSM in relief as he struck out two while allowing three runs on five hits, a walk and a hit-by-pitch in 3.1 innings.
- Chico reliever James Courshon (0-1) took the loss as he allowed two runs on a hit and hit-by-pitch without recording an out.
- This was the second series split in the all-time series between CSUSM and Chico with the last occurring in 2019.
- CSUSM was hit by a pitch seven times, tying its season high against Cal State Dominguez Hills on March 3.
- The Cougars laid down a season-best four sacrifice bunts.
