SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos baseball team (1-4) split its doubleheader with Colorado School of Mines (3-6) as it won its first game of the year by a score of 8-1 before falling 4-0 in the second game.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Mines' Jackson Woolwine hit a two-out solo homer to left in the top of the first to give the Orediggers a 1-0 lead.
- The Cougars took the lead at 2-1 in the bottom of the third on two-run double by Lake that scored Luke Reece and Garrett Teunissen.
- In the fourth inning, Scalley hit a solo homer to right center before Sommay hit an RBI single up the middle to score Diaz and give CSUSM a 4-1 lead.
- As Lake distracted Mines' defense by stealing second, Sommay stole home and gave the Cougars a 5-1 lead in the seventh.
- In a bases-loaded jam with one out in the top of the eighth and the tying run at the plate, Preston Kelly came on and earned two punchouts to end the frame.
- CSUSM put the game out of reach in the bottom of the eighth with an RBI double by Ruben Cedillo, an RBI single by Bradley Chesterton and an RBI double by Teunissen.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- After a leadoff walk to begin the game, Jackson Woolwine hit an RBI double to right center to score Canon Humphreys. He eventually scored on a two-out RBI double down the left field line by I-Ly Hsue to give the Orediggers a 2-0 lead.
- Still 2-0 entering the top of the seventh, Woolwine hit an RBI triple to score Humphreys before an RBI single up Luke Folsom scored Woolwine to give Mines a 4-0 lead.
