Orediggers Get Past Cougars in Home Opener

SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos baseball team (0-3) fell 4-2 to Colorado School of Mines (2-5) in the Cougars' home opener at CSUSM Baseball Field on Friday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • On the fourth pitch of the game, Jackson Woolwine hit a leadoff homer to left and gave the Orediggers a 1-0 lead in the top of the first.
  • The Cougars went up 2-1 in the bottom of the fourth. After Lake singled to begin the frame and Cameron Mahaffy walked, Teunissen hit an RBI single back up the middle to score Lake. An RBI groundout to second by Ethan Rivera scored Mahaffy from third and gave CSUSM the lead.
  • With the bases loaded in the top of the fifth, a passed ball allowed Mines' Wayne Moeck to score and knot the game at 2-all.
  • The Orediggers scored the game's final runs in the top of the seventh as Luke Folsom hit a two-run blast to right to put Mines ahead 4-2.
 
QUICK HITS
  • Mines reliever Jackson Bakovich (1-1) picked up the win as he threw 4.1 scoreless innings while striking out three and allowing one walk and a hit-by-pitch.
  • Cougar reliever Bruno De Leon (0-1) took the loss after allowing two runs on five hits while striking out three.
  • CSUSM starter Sammy Murphy threw 5.0 innings and struck out six while allowing two runs (one earned) on two hits and six walks.
  • Oredigger starter Luke Folsom tossed 4.0 innings and struck out three while giving up two runs on three hits, two walks and one hit-by-pitch.
