ROHNERT PARK, Calif. – The No. 6-seeded Cal State San Marcos softball team (28-19) opened the NCAA West Regional by run-ruling host No. 2-seeded Sonoma State (35-14) with a 13-1 win in five innings on Thursday at Seawolf Softball.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- CSUSM had its best first inning of the season as it posted 10 runs on six hits and four walks. The Cougars got an RBI single from Waymire, an RBI single by Jillian Albayati, a bases-loaded walk by Aneesa Arredondo, a bases-loaded walk by Fleischman, a wild pitch that scored Albayati, a bases-loaded walk by Donnelly, a bases-loaded hit-by-pitch for Bianca Gutierrez, a two-run double by Kestler and another RBI single by Waymire. CSUSM ended up making 15 plate appearances.
- The Cougars made it an 11-0 game in the top of the second with a sac fly to left by Donnelly that scored Ryann Steiner.
- The Seawolves scored their one and only run in the bottom of the third with a one-out RBI single through the right side by Rylee Nishimoto.
- CSUSM plated the game's final two runs in the top of the fifth as Waymire scored on a bases-loaded fielding error by the third baseman and on an RBI groundout by Fleischman.

- CSUSM starter Jayline Sloss (7-7) earned the win as she struck out six while allowing just one earned run on three hits and two walks in 4.0 innings.
- SSU starter Charlie Johnson (9-4) took the loss as she allowed nine runs (seven earned) on 11 hits, three walks and a hit-by-pitch while striking out two in 4.2 innings.
- This was Waymire's first career four-hit game and was her 11th multi-hit game of the season.
- Donnelly notched her team-leading 12th multi-RBI game of the year.
- Kestler extended her reached-based streak to 13 games.
- This was the Cougars' sixth NCAA Tournament win as they won four West Regional games and one West Super Regional game last season.
- CSUSM is now 3-0 against SSU in West Regional contests.
- This was CSUSM's second mercy-ruled victory of the season with the first one coming in the final week of regular season in an 8-0 five-inning victory against Stanislaus State on April 28.Â
