CSUSM Falls 7-2 in Series Finale at SF State

SAN FRANCISCO – The Cal State San Marcos baseball team (11-17, 5-13 CCAA) fell 7-2 to San Francisco State (19-12, 12-11 CCAA) in the series finale at Maloney Field on Saturday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Gators got out to a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the second with a bases-loaded walk by Sammy Gonzales, a two-run single by Daniel Santos and an RBI groundout by Nick Upstill.
  • A two-run homer by Justin Clark put SF State up 6-0 in the bottom of the third.
  • An RBI double by Santos gave the Gatos a 7-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth.
  • The Cougars scored their lone runs of the game in the top of the seventh with an RBI single down the right field line by Rivera to score Aoki before Pacino scored on a fielding error to cut the deficit to the eventual final score of 7-2.
 
QUICK HITS
  • SF State's Gabrial Lopez (1-0) earned the win after pitching 4.0 innings of relief with two strikeouts while allowing just two hits and three walks.
  • Cougar starter Nolan Long (0-6) took the loss after allowing four runs on three hits and four walks in 1.2 innings while striking out two.
  • Nick Schnopp extended his reached-base streak to 14 games with a hit and a walk while Pacino improved his hitting streak to seven games.
