Cougars Fall to Toros in Series Finale, Split Season Series

SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos baseball team fell 5-3 against Cal State Dominguez Hills to split the season series on Tuesday afternoon at CSUSM Baseball Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Toros plated the game's first run in the top of the third as Scott Ogrin scored on a CSUSM fielding error.
  • The Cougars evened the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the third as an RBI triple by Pacino scored Aoki from first.
  • CSUDH went up 3-1 in the top of the fourth on an RBI double to right center by Aaron Greenfield and an RBI single to center by Eric Smelko.
  • CSUSM knotted the game once again in the bottom of the fourth on an RBI fielder's choice by Jake Adams and an RBI single to left by Aoki.
  • An RBI single to right center by Smelko put the Toros back on top at 4-3.
  • CSUDH wrapped up the scoring in the top of the ninth as Brock Denbo put down a sacrifice bunt that scored Emilio Barrera from third to make it 5-3.
  • The Cougars ended the game with a fly out and two groundouts.

  • Toro reliever Josh Castillo (1-1) earned the win as he pitched 1.1 scoreless innings with just two hits and a walk allowed.
  • Cougar reliever Christian Becerra (0-2) took the loss after allowing one run on three hits and two walks in 3.0 innings while striking out two.
  • Pacino extended his reached-base streak to 10 games and hitting streak to eight.
