SAN MARCOS, Calif.  – The No. 21 Cal State San Marcos softball team (20-13, 14-8 CCAA) fell twice on Friday, by scores of 2-1 and 6-1, to Cal State San Bernardino (23-16, 15-10 CCAA) at CSUSM Softball Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Gutierrez sliced an RBI single by the shortstop to plate Arredondo and give CSUSM a 1-0 lead in the third inning. Â
- The Yotes took a 2-1 lead in the top of the fifth on a 2-RBI double by Alexis Aguado that dropped on the right foul line.
- The Cougars had a rally going in the bottom of the seven after CSUSB committed two errors but a deep fly followed by a runner-left-early call ended the game.

- CSUSM starter Savannah Coyle (10-4) picked up the loss after giving up two runs on five hits and one walk while striking out four.
- CSUSB starter Samantha Vargas (15-9) tossed a complete game, allowing one run on four hits and one walk.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- After three scoreless innings, the Yotes took a 1-0 lead in the fourth on pinch hitter Bailey Wallace's ground out to second base.
- In the fifth inning, the Yotes put up a 5-spot on Kaylee Williamson's 2-RBI double, Alyssa Martinez's 2-RBI single and Ariana Chavarria's RBI groundout.
- CSUSM prevented a shutout with Salgado's RBI single up the middle that plated Mackenzie Kestler. Â
