SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The No. 21 Cal State San Marcos softball team (20-15, 14-10 CCAA) dropped both end of its doubleheader to Cal State San Bernardino (25-16, 17-10 CCAA) on Saturday at CSUSM Softball Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- A deep right corner sacrifice fly by Arredondo plated Waymire who reached on a walk in the bottom of the fourth inning to put CSUSM up 1-0.
- With a bit of déjà vu, the Yotes took a 2-0 lead in the top of the sixth on a Tereise Tosi RBI single and an RBI ground out by Kaylee Williamson.
- After Paige Donnelly reached second on a dropped fly ball with two outs in the seventh, Yotes ace Samantha Vargas came into the game in relief to record a strikeout and her second save of the season.
QUICK HITS
- CSUSM starter Jayline Sloss (5-6) recorded the loss despite giving up just two runs on three hits and one walk while fanning three batters in a complete-game performance.
- San Bernardino starter Natalie Carlos (7-1) picked up the win after holding CSUSM to one run on five hits and four walks.
- Gutierrez registered her 10th multi-hit game and second three-hit game of the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Yotes took a quick 2-0 lead in the second on a 2-RBI double by Veronica Garza in the top of the second.
- CSUSB added to its lead with three runs in the third off a two-run homer by Tereise Tosi and an RBI single by Ariana Chavarria to make it 5-0.
- The Cougars got on the board in the bottom of the frame on a Gutierrez RBI triple that scored Arredondo to make it 5-1 CSUSB.
- After a solo home run by Tosi in the top of the seventh inning, Albayati homered to left to end the scoring at 6-2.
QUICK HITS
- CSUSM starter Savannah Coyle (10-5) took the loss after going 2.1 innings, allowing five runs (four earned) on four hits and one walk.
- Yote ace Samantha Vargas (16-9) collected a CCAA-leading 16th win after giving up two runs on eight hits and one walk while striking out four batters.
- Albayati picked up her sixth home run and leads the team.
- Gutierrez extended her reached-base streak to 12 games and hitting streak to eight games.
- The Cougars are tied for third in the CCAA standings with Cal State Monterey Bay.
- This is the first time CSUSM has been swept in a CCAA series since 2019 at then-Humboldt State.
