CSUSM Falls on Senior Day to CSUEB

SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos baseball team (18-23, 12-19 CCAA) ended its 2023 home schedule with a 6-2 loss to Cal State East Bay (25-21, 19-17 CCAA) and split the series on Sunday at CSUSM Baseball Field.
 
Prior to the game, CSUSM honored seniors Jared Billen, Graham Cumming and Adam Lovato.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • East Bay jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the second with an RBI single by Niko Mollat and a two-run single up the middle by Essex Brown Jr.
  • CSUSM got on the board with a sacrifice fly by McGrew than scored Nick Schnopp in the bottom of the second.
  • The Cougars brought the deficit down to 3-2 in the bottom of the fourth with a sacrifice fly to foul territory in right field and scored Luke Reece.
  • The Pioneers scored the game's final three runs in the top of the fifth with an RBI single through the right side by Manny Garcia, an infield error allowed Luke Novitske to score and a sacrifice fly to right by Matthew Mandeville to make it 6-3.
 
QUICK HITS
  • East Bay starter Tristin Tatum (3-2) earned the win as he threw a complete game with three strikeouts while allowing two runs (one earned) on eight hits, one walk and a hit-by-pitch.
  • Cougar reliever Zack Jordan (0-1) took the loss after allowing three runs on two hit-by-pitches and one hit.
  • Rivera collected his team-leading 16th multi-hit game of the season.
  • This was McGrew eighth multi-RBI game of the year and seventh with two RBIs.
  • Emilio Luna extended his reached-base streak to 11 games.

CSUSM will head to Cal State Monterey Bay for its final series of the regular season beginning on Thursday at 3 p.m.
