SEASIDE, Calif. – Beginning the final weekend of the regular season, the Cal State San Marcos baseball team (19-23, 13-19 CCAA) earned a 6-4 victory over No. 13 Cal State Monterey Bay (31-14, 28-9 CCAA) on Thursday at the Otter Sports Complex.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Otters began the scoring with an RBI single to center by JJ Engman to go up 1-0 in the bottom of the first.
- As CSUMB hit into a double play in the bottom of the second, Kyle Guerra scored to make it 2-0.
- An RBI fielder's choice by Diaz cut CSUSM's deficit to 2-1 in the top of the third.
- A two-run blast by Engman put the Otters up 4-1 in the bottom of the third.
- The Cougars knotted the game at 4-4 in the top of the fifth with a solo shot by Pacino before Reece hit a two-run knock two batters later.
- CSUSM took its first lead of the game at 5-4 in the top of the eighth with a solo homer to left by McGrew.
- The Cougars concluded the scoring in the top of the ninth with an RBI double to left center by Reece to go up 6-4.
- Preston Kelly closed the door in the bottom of the ninth with a fly out to right, a pop up to third and a fly out to left to earn his ninth save of the season on seven pitches.

- This was CSUSM's highest-ranked win over an opponent in the NCAA Division II era (2016-present). The Cougars' previous high was against No. 17 Colorado School of Mines in 2022.
- Cougar reliever Luca Staiano (2-0) earned the win after tossing 1.0 inning of relief while allowing just one walk.
- Otter reliever Colby Harrison (0-2) took the loss after allowing two runs on four hits and two walks in 4.0 innings while striking out two.
