SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos softball team (27-18, 20-18 CCAA) concluded the regular season on a high note with a 3-1 series victory over Stanislaus State (13-32, 7-28 CCAA) on Friday. The Cougars recorded a 1-0 victory in the nightcap after falling 3-0 in the doubleheader opener.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- A leadoff single by Katie Thornsberry and a walk led to a 2-0 lead for Stanislaus State in the opening inning.
- The Warriors added to their lead with a sacrifice fly by Madison Flexser in the top of the third.
QUICK HITS
- Stan State starter Jessell Lewis (5-11) recorded the win after tossing a complete-game shutout, allowing four hits and one walk while fanning three batters.
- CSUSM starter Zoe Ballen (5-5) took the loss after giving up three runs on five hits and two walks while collecting two strikeouts in 6.1 innings.
- Gutierrez saw her team-leading streak of reaching base safely come to an end at 20 games.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Cougars broke a scoreless stalemate in the bottom of the sixth on an RBI double by Donnelly to left center to put CSUSM up 1-0.
- In the top of the seventh, CSUSM reliever Savannah Coyle recorded a fly out, gave up a single, forced a groundout before tallying a strikeout for the win.
QUICK HITS
- Coyle picked up her third win of the series after going 2.0 innings, giving up one single and collecting a strikeout.
- CSUSM starter Jayline Sloss got another no-decision after 5.0 shutout innings, allowing three hits while fanning three batters.
- Warrior starter Kyndra Marzorini (4-11) took the loss after allowing one run on three hits and three walks in 6.0 innings of work.
- Mackenzie Kestler has the longest current streak of reaching base safely at 11 games with Donnelly at 10 games.
UP NEXT
The Cougars will be the No. 3 seed in the CCAA tournament beginning next week in Carson on the campus of Cal State Dominguez Hills. They will face Chico State at noon on Wednesday, May 3 in the first single-elimination round of the CCAA Tournament. If they win, the tournament will be reseeded and the tournament will then be double elimination.
