SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos baseball team (17-21, 11-17 CCAA) posted a come-from-behind win over Cal State East Bay (23-20, 17-16 CCAA) with a 10-8 victory in the series opener on Friday at CSUSM Baseball Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- CSUEB began the scoring in the bottom of the second inning with a solo homer to left by Manny Garcia to give the Pioneers a 1-0 lead.
- CSUSM evened the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the second. After a leadoff double by Ethan Rivera and a single by McGrew put runners on the corners, Rivera scored on a double play ball to the middle infield.
- The Pioneers retook the lead in the top of the third at 3-1 on an RBI single by Luke Brown and a sacrifice fly to right by Matthew O'Mahony.
- The Cougars got a run back with an RBI single up the middle by Diaz to make it 3-2 in the bottom of the third.
- East Bay took a 6-2 lead in the top of the fifth with an RBI single by Luke Novitske, a wild pitch that scored Essex Brown Jr., and an RBI single by Garcia.
- CSUSM cut the deficit to 6-3 in the bottom of the fifth with an RBI double to left center by Reece.
- The Pioneers increased their lead to 8-3 in the top of the sixth with an Essex Brown Jr. single through the right side and an RBI double down the left field line by Novitske.
- The Cougars rallied with a five-run inning in the bottom of the sixth to tie the game at 8-all. With the bases loaded and one out, CSUSM got RBI singles from Jake Adams and Pacino before a bases-loaded walk by Diaz made it 8-6. A sacrifice fly to right by Reece scored Adams before a muffed throw allowed Pacino to score the tying run.
- CSUSM went ahead 10-8 in the bottom of the eighth with a sac fly to center by Reece and an RBI double down the left field line by Schnopp.
- Preston Kelly came on to begin the top of the ninth and secured his eighth save of the year with a ground out, a pickoff at first following a Pioneer single and a strikeout to end the game.

- Cougar reliever Thomas Babineau (1-1) earned the win with two strikeouts while allowing just one run and one walk in 1.2 innings.
- Pioneer reliever Max Gonzalez (4-1) took the loss after allowing two runs on two hits and a walk in 1.2 innings.
- Kelly is now all alone for the second-most saves in a single season at CSUSM and sits two behind Justin Hertzmann's 10 in 2015.
- The Cougars have now won three consecutive home games against the Pioneers dating back to 2019, all by scoring 10 or more runs.
- Schnopp and Reece each tallied their 13th multi-hit game of the season as Schnopp extended his hitting streak to seven games.
- CSUSM continues to sit in a tie for eighth in the CCAA standings as Chico State also posted a win at Cal State Dominguez Hills on Friday.
