ROHNERT PARK, Calif. – It took 11 innings, but the Cal State San Marcos baseball team (14-20, 8-16 CCAA) earned an 8-6 victory over Sonoma State in the series opener on Friday at Seawolf Diamond.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Seawolves took an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first on an RBI single up the middle by Mark Hernandez.
- The Cougars knotted the game at 1-all in the top of the second with an RBI triple to right by Jake Adams.
- SSU regained the lead at 2-1 in the bottom of the second as Lucas Townsend hit an RBI fielder's choice to short.
- CSUSM took its first lead of the game in the top of the fifth with an RBI single through the left side by Reece and a two-run single up the middle by Rivera to put the Cougars up 4-2.
- Sonoma went ahead once again at 6-4 in the bottom of the fifth with a solo homer by Kenny Decelle, a two-run single to right by Daniel Monti and an error on the right fielder that allowed another run to score.
- Down to its final out in the top of the ninth, CSUSM successfully tied the game with a bases-loaded, two-run single to left by Schnopp and tied the game at 6-6.
- Still tied entering the 11th, the Cougars plated two runs with a sacrifice fly to center by Sean McGrew and an RBI single to center by Tanner Aoki to go up 6-4.
- Preston Kelly came on to close out the game in the bottom of the 11th and allowed just one hit while getting a groundout, strikeout and fly out to end the game and earn his fifth save of the season.

- Cougar reliever Josiah Torres (3-1) earned the win after a flawless 2.0-inning performance while striking out one.
- Seawolf reliever Caleb Davis (0-3) took the loss after allowing two unearned runs on two walks, two hit-by-pitches and a hit in 1.2 innings.
- Kelly's five saves for the season are the most by a Cougar since Justin Hertzmann set the program's single-season record of 10 in 2015.
- Reece's four walks tied the program record set by Tyler Bernard on Jan. 30, 2014 against Simpson.
- This was Reece's 12th multi-hit performance of the season.
- Rivera extended his hitting streak to nine games while recording his team-leading 10th multi-RBI game.
