CHICO, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos softball team swept the CCAA weekly awards for the week of Feb. 27-March 5 as
Paige Donnelly was named the CCAA Player of the Week and
Savannah Coyle picked up her second consecutive CCAA Pitcher of the Week honor.

Donnelly hit .600 with a .733 on-base percentage as the No. 5-ranked Cougars took three of four games against Chico State. The sophomore first baseman had two doubles, two home runs, five RBIs and scored five runs. In the four games, she made only four outs.

In Friday's doubleheader, Donnelly recorded just one hit but reached base in five of her seven plate appearances as she drew four walks and was hit by a pitch.Â

In Saturday's doubleheader, Donnelly was even better. The Poway native went 5-for-7 at the plate with two doubles, two home runs and five RBI. She also crossed the plate four times. In the series finale, Donnelly was 3-of-4 with a double, a home run, two RBI and two runs scored.Â

As the reigning CCAA Newcomer of the Year, this is Donnelly's first career CCAA Player of the Week honor. She is the first Cougar hitter to earn CCAA Player of the Week honors since Gabriela Arizaga during this same week in 2017.

Coyle appeared in all three wins for the Cougars as they took three of four games at home against Chico State. She went 16.0 innings, earning two wins and a save. She allowed two runs (one earned) and nine hits while striking out four and walking one.Â

In Friday's opener, the left-hander threw a complete game, allowing just two hits and one run to earn the win. Coyle then earned the save in the nightcap after entering the game with no outs and the tying run on second base. She retired the next three batters to end the rally before pitching a scoreless seventh for her second save of the season.Â

Coyle threw a complete game to wrap up the series on Saturday. She gave up six hits over seven innings and allowed only one unearned run. It was her fourth complete game of the season.Â

The Oceanside native is now second in the CCAA with a 0.85 earned run average and third in WHIP (0.97). She is also tied for fifth in wins (sixth).

The Cougars will face one of their toughest tests of the season this weekend when they meet No. 19 Sonoma State on the road beginning Friday, March 10, at noon.
