SAN BERNARDINO, Calif – The Cal State San Marcos baseball team (6-7, 0-3 CCAA) dropped both ends of its doubleheader by scores of 11-10 and 11-2 on Saturday against No. 5 Cal State San Bernardino (12-1, 3-0 CCAA) at Fiscalini Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Yotes jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the opening frame on a Daryl Ruiz RBI single.
- An Aoki solo home run to right in the third inning evened the game at 1-all.
- CSUSB answered with its own solo homer to left by Garrett Macias to retake the lead at 2-1 in the fourth.
- McGrew followed with his own solo home run in the next half of the frame to even the game once again.
- In the bottom of the fifth and sixth, the Yotes put up four runs in each frame on a total of nine hits and two errors that was highlighted by a two-run homer by Del Negro to put CSUSB up 10-2.
- The Cougars put together a late rally in the final three frames pushing eight runs across. A Pacino solo homer and a groundout RBI in the seventh followed by a bases-loaded walk, a wild pitch that resulted in a run, a Nick Schnopp two-run double and a McGrew RBI single in the top of the eighth to cut CSUSB's lead to 10-9.
- The Yotes added a run in the bottom of the eighth on a Macias sacrifice fly to make it 11-9.
- The Cougars made one last rally in the top of the ninth as Reece and Morrell hit back-to-back one-out doubles to make it 11-10. CSUSB's Oscar Rauda collected his third save of the season after retiring the final two Cougars on a strikeout and ground out.

- CSUSB starter Luke Hempel (2-1) collected the win after going 7.0 innings, allowing four runs on five hits and three walks while striking out four.
- CSUSM starter Pat MacDonald (2-1) picked up his first loss of the season after allowing six runs on 10 hits and one walk in 4.2 innings on the mound.
- Pacino's home run raised his 2023 total to a team-high two.

- The Cougars struck first once again with a Reece RBI single to short that plated Diaz to take a 1-0 lead in the first inning.
- CSUSB went up 2-1 on a Jeremy Giesegh two-run single to short in the bottom of the second.
- The Yotes put up seven runs in the third on Jake Borst's three-run homer, Giesegh's solo homer and a CSUSM error to raise its lead to 9-1.
- Freeman's solo home run in the fifth tacked on one more run for CSUSM to make it 9-2.
- The Yotes added two more runs in the sixth when Del Negro went yard to end the scoring at 11-2.

- CSUSB starter Dylan O'Connor went 6.0 innings for the win, giving up only two runs on five hits and two walks while fanning six batters.
- CSUSM starter Nolan Long took the loss after going just 2.2 innings, allowing eight runs (six earned) on six hits and three walks while striking out two.
- In relief, Daniel Neria recorded five strikeouts in 2.1 hitless innings and gave up just one unearned run with one walk.
