LOS ANGELES – The Cal State San Marcos baseball team (6-10, 0-6 CCAA) suffered a 13-5 loss in its series opener at Cal State LA (6-9, 1-5 CCAA) on Friday night at Reeder Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- CSUSM began the scoring in the top of the first as McGrew scored from third on a double steal attempt and put the Cougars up 1-0.
- The Cougars went up 3-0 in the top of the second. Morrell scored on a passed ball following his triple before McGrew put an RBI single into left.
- LA's bats came alive in the bottom of the second with six runs on five hits. The Golden Eagles scored runs on a Wilem Drozdowski sacrifice fly to right, an Ethan Gonzalez RBI single, a Kadyn Victorian RBI single, a Nick Atkins RBI single, a Matthew Piotrowski sac fly and an Andrew Tovar RBI single.
- LA went up 8-3 in the bottom of the fourth with an RBI groundout by Piotrowski and an RBI double by Tovar.
- An RBI triple by Johnny Pacheco gave the Golden Eagles a 9-3 lead in the bottom of the fifth.
- After Victorian stole third and scored on a CSUSM throwing error in the bottom of the seventh, a three-run blast by Piotrowski put LA up 13-3.
- The Cougars cut the deficit to 13-5 in the top of the eighth with a two-run double to right center by Jesus Lopez but it ended being CSUSM's last runs of the game.

- LA starter Owen Hunt (3-3) earned the win after striking out six while allowing three runs (two earned) on eight hits and four walks in 7.0 innings.
- CSUSM starter Christian Becerra (0-1) took the loss after allowing six runs on five hits and three walks while striking out one in 2.0 innings.
- Luke Reece extended his reached-base streak to 15 games with a walk.
