IRVINE, Calif. – The No. 11 Cal State San Marcos softball team posted a come-from-behind victory against Dominican in the night game after claiming a 7-1 win against Colorado Christian to go 2-0 on day one of the Concordia University Irvine Kickoff Classic at Great Park.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- CSUSM posted all seven runs in the second inning, collecting six hits while taking advantage of CCU's two errors in the frame. The inning was capped by Donnelly's bases-clearing double to left center to make it 7-0.
- CCU's lone run came in the fifth inning on a CSUSM error.

- CSUSM starter Savannah Coyle (1-0) earned her first win of the season after posting seven strikeouts and walking two while relinquishing only one unearned run in six innings of action.
- CCU starter Kali Crandall gave up seven runs (five unearned) on six hits in two innings in the circle.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- CSUSM took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third on Donnelly's single through the left side that plated Waymire.
- The Penguins snagged the lead in the bottom of the frame on Lapinid's two-out 2-RBI double down the right field line. Â
- With two outs in the top of the seventh, Gutierrez crushed a 2-RBI double off the center field wall to put CSUSM back at 3-2.
- CSUSM reliever Jayline Sloss retired the side with three groundouts.
QUICK HITS
- The Cougars are off to their best start since 2016 when they began the season with a pair of wins over NAIA's Vanguard.
- Sloss collected the win after tossing two shutout innings and recording one strikeout.
- Zoe Ballen started the game, relinquishing two earned runs on five hits and five strikeouts in five innings of action.
- After falling in the inaugural meeting to Dominican in 2007, CSUSM has now won nine consecutive games.
