Cougars Earn 1-0 Win Over Royals

SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos women's soccer team (2-1-1) earned a 1-0 win over NAIA opponent Hope International (4-2) in its final non-conference home game at The Cage on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Scoreless after 45 minutes, CSUSM had a heavy advantage in the shots department at 8-2 while taking three shots on goal.
  • After Galvin sent a cross into the box from the far-left side, Paulson connected on a header that went into the center of the goal from six yards out and gave the Cougars a 1-0 lead in the 65th minute.
  • CSUSM kept the Royals' offense at bay for the next 25 minutes to clinch the victory.

  • CSUSM ended the game with 13 shots to HIU's four.
  • The Cougars had a 4-1 advantage on corner kicks.
  • The battle of possession was an even 50-50 split, but CSUSM had possession in HIU territory for 70% of the game.
