Matt Pennington of men's golf have been named the Cal State San Marcos Student-Athletes of the Month for May 2022.
Â
The CSUSM Student-Athletes of the Month awards are determined through a vote of all Department of Athletics coaches, administrators and staff. Each in-season program nominates a student-athlete to be considered for the award each month.
Â

Pennington had quite the May as he became CSUSM's first individual regional champion in the sport of the golf. He won the NCAA Division II West/South Central Regional after carding a 66 in the final round and winning a four-hole playoff hole. He then became CSUSM's first men's golfer to compete in the NCAA Division II National Championship and went on to tie for 46th. Pennington was also named to the PING All-West Region team. This is Pennington's fourth time being named the Student-Athlete of the Month in 2021-22, the most individual selections in a single athletic year.
