ALLENDALE, Mich. –
Devin Yarbrough and
Ana Mercado of the Cal State San Marcos women's track & field team wrapped up their 2022 season at the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Thursday and Friday at Grand Valley State Track & Field Stadium.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Yarbrough finished 13th out of 20 in the long jump on Thursday afternoon with a distance of 5.79 meters on her third attempt. The mark was her third best of the season.
- On Friday afternoon, Mercado placed 23rd in the prelims of the 800-meter run with a time of 2:16.48.
- This was the first time in program history that CSUSM had more than one student-athlete selected for the NCAA Championships. It was also the first time the Cougars were represented in both the long jump and 800-meter run.
THOUGHTS FROM HEAD COACH TORREY OLSON
"I'm very proud of both Devin and Ana and the step they have taken for our program. Both athletes are third-year students experiencing their first season of track and field at the college level. To qualify for nationals, represent San Marcos, gain that experience as returners and be able to bring that back to their teammates in the next season is huge. A great capstone to a wonderful season."
