SAN MARCOS, Calif. – As the No. 11 Cal State San Marcos softball team makes its West Regional debut, the Cougars will be celebrating the four All-West Region nods they received from the D2CAA and NFCA organizations, in addition to first baseman
Paige Donnelly being named D2CCA All-West Region Player of the Year.

Jayline Sloss was named to the D2CCA and NFCA All-West Regional second team.

Prior to this year, CSUSM had only one player earn All-West Region honors as Melody Forstie earned D2CCA second team honors in 2019.

Donnelly led the CCAA in batting average (.442), RBIs (54), slugging percentage (.752), on-base percentage (.493) and OPS (1.245). The redshirt freshman from Poway has recorded a team-leading 16 multi-RBI games and is second on the team with 17 multi-hit games. She has reached base in 15 consecutive games – a season record.Â

Coyle has been outstanding in her first collegiate season as she earned two CCAA Pitcher of the Week honors. The freshman from Oceanside enters regionals with a 17-4 record and a 1.51 ERA in 125.1 innings. Coyle has tossed 11 complete games and four shutouts while accumulating five saves. She has also been big at the plate this season for CSUSM, ranking second on the team in slugging percentage (.524) and third in batting average (.398).
Gutierrez was right behind Donnelly in the CCAA in batting average with a .408 clip. The freshman from Camarillo leads the team in hits (62) and has put together two 10-game hitting steaks this season. Gutierrez is the toughest player to strikeout out in the CCAA with just four strikeouts in her 152 at-bats this season – striking out every 38.0 at bats and ranking her 11th in Division II.
Sloss held CCAA opponents to the fourth-lowest batting average (.221) in conference this season while ranking sixth in ERA (1.99). The redshirt freshman from Bakersfield tallied a 14-2 record this season, tossing seven complete games and four shutouts in 114.1 innings.

No. 11 CSUSM will make its NCAA Division II postseason debut as the No. 1 seed and will host the West Regional this week. The Cougars will open the tournament against eighth-seeded Northwest Nazarene on Thursday, May 12 at noon.
