SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos baseball team (5-6, 1-0 CCAA) began CCAA play with a 10-0 shutout over Cal State LA (7-8, 2-3 CCAA) on Saturday at CSUSM Baseball Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The game was scoreless until the bottom of the fifth inning when CSUSM went up 4-0. The Cougars got the scoring started with a two-run triple to left center by Berohn. Stanford then got a sacrifice bunt to go down the third-base line to score Berohn. After a Golden Eagle pitching change, an RBI single to right by Reece scored Emilio Luna to wrap up the scoring.
- CSUSM tacked on four more runs in the bottom of the seventh. After a walk and single led off the inning, Reece hit an RBI single to center to score Luna. Kevin Van Linge then hit an RBI single to right to score Niko Diaz. With one out, Reece scored from third on a passed ball before an RBI single to center by Rivera made it an 8-0 game.
- After Berohn tallied his second triple of the game to lead off the inning, an RBI double to left by Stanford scored Berohn. With two outs and Stanford on third, Reece hit an RBI single to center to put the Cougars up 10-0.
- Christian Lewis came on to close things out in the top of the ninth, hitting one batter before getting a fly out and two strikeouts to send the game.

- Cougar starter Garrett Apker (2-0) picked up the win after tossing five scoreless innings with four strikeouts while allowing just two hits and four walks.
- Golden Eagle starter Yuji Sakane (1-2) was chased from the game after allowing four runs (three earned) on one hit, two walks and a hit-by-pitch in 4.2 innings while earning four strikeouts.
- Berohn became the eighth Cougar in program history to tally two triples in a game.
- CSUSM has won its CCAA opener in each of the last three seasons.
- The Cougars are now 12-9 in the all-time series and are 7-2 when playing at home.
- This was CSUSM's first shutout in the all-time series against Cal State LA, and the Cougars have scored 10 or more runs in three of the last four games against the Golden Eagles.
