HOW IT HAPPENED
- A leadoff homer on a 1-0 pitch in the bottom of the first inning by Eric Smelko put the Toros up 1-0.
- Dominguez Hills took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning with a two-run, inside-the-park homer by Scott Ogrin.
- In the bottom of the fifth inning, an RBI single to left by Ogrin followed by an RBI single down the left field line by Pierson Loska put CSUDH up 5-0.
- The Toros took a 9-0 lead in the bottom of the seventh with a bases-loaded hit-by-pitch, an RBI single by Alberto Luevano and back-to-back bases-loaded walks.
- The Cougars broke up the shutout in the top of the eighth inning. With runners on second and third following a Toro fielding error, a walk and a wild pitch, Lopez hit a sacrifice fly to right to bring in Ponce de Leon for CSUSM's first run.
- CSUSM tried to get a little ninth-inning magic going. With the bases juiced following two singles and a walk, Reece cleared the bases with a three-run double down the left field line to make it 9-4. A single to center immediately after by Lopez made it 9-5, however, a strikeout and groundout ended the game.
