RV/No. 20 Cougars Clinch 11th Consecutive Win at CSUDH

CARSON, Calif. – The RV/No. 20 Cal State San Marcos women's basketball team (15-2, 13-1 CCAA) collected its 11th consecutive victory on Saturday afternoon with a 72-61 win over Cal State Dominguez Hills (9-9, 7-6 CCAA) in the Torodome.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Cougars trailed 20-17 to the Toros at the conclusion of the first quarter.
  • CSUSM evened the game at 25-all on a Vasquez layup with 5:24 remaining in the second quarter. The Toros retook the lead and held it at 33-32 at the break.
  • CSUDH had a slight edge in shooting in the first half at 40.6% (13-of-32) to CSUSM's 39.3% (11-of-28).
  • A layup by Hackson to start the third quarter put CSUSM up 34-33 at the 9-minute mark.
  • A 5-0 run by the Cougars topped by a Forrester 3-pointer put CSUSM up 44-41 with 4:06 remaining in the third quarter. CSUSM never relinquished the lead from that point.
  • The Cougars took their largest lead of the game at the 3:13 mark of the fourth quarter when Forrester sunk a 3-pointer to make it 65-49.
  • Forrester scored 14 of her 19 points in the second half, including all four of her 3-pointers for the night.
  • CSUSM went 8-of-10 (80%) from the field and 3-of-4 (75%) from behind the arc in the fourth quarter.
 
FAST BREAKS
  • CSUSM tied the program's best consecutive winning streak, matching the one set in 2019-20 that led to a share of the CCAA Regular-Season Title.
  • The Cougars remain in first place in the CCAA with a .929 (13-1) winning percentage with Cal State East Bay in second at .917 (11-1).
  • CSUSM collected 20 assists, tying the second most recorded in a game this season. This marks the fifth time CSUSM has accumulated 20 or more assists in a game during the 2021-22 season.
  • The Cougars have won five straight games against the Toros and are 6-8 in the all-time series.
  • Forrester's 19 points was a season high and was the third highest she's recorded in her career.
  • Vasquez registered her first back-to-back double-double (22 points, 10 rebounds) of the season after recording the feat on Thursday against Cal State East Bay. It was her sixth double-double of the season.
  • CSUSM finished the game with higher field-goal percentage than the Toros, 46.3%-35.4%, and outrebounded CSUDH, 38-36.
  • Thirty-four of CSUSM's points came from inside the paint while eight were off fast breaks.
  • CSUDH got 35 of its points from its bench.
  • The Cougars led the game for 19:50 while the Toros were on top for 13:35.
