Derek Westwood of men's soccer have been named the Cal State San Marcos Student-Athletes of the Month for October 2022.

The CSUSM Student-Athletes of the Month awards are determined through a vote of all Department of Athletics coaches, administrators and staff. Each in-season program nominates a student-athlete to be considered for the award each month.

Horn earned CCAA Golfer of the Week honors for the seventh time in her career after winning the HPU Shark Shootout with a 7-under 137 and tying for seventh in the Dennis Rose Invitational with a 2-over 146. She was the only CCAA golfer in the entire field shoot under par for the combined 72 holes last week. Horn currently ranks 45th in Division II according to Golfstat.com.

Westwood led CSUSM with four points while scoring one goal and tallying two assists for the month. His first assist came in the Cougars' 2-2 tie at No. 10 Cal Poly Pomona with a cross into the box in the 85th minute. Westwood tallied his second assist in CSUSM's 2-1 win over Cal Poly Humboldt with another cross in the 59th minute. He ended the month with his first goal as a Cougar and the eventual-game winner in CSUSM's 2-0 win over Cal State San Bernardino in the 25th minute. Westwood finished the season with the second-most points on the team (7) and led the team in assists (5) – the most assists by a Cougar since 2015.

This is the first CSUSM Student-Athlete of the Month honor for both Horn and Westwood.
