Cougars Swept in Doubleheader at San Francisco State

SAN FRANCISCO – The Cal State San Marcos baseball team took the series loss to San Francisco State as it fell by scores of 10-3 and 3-2 in Saturday's California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) doubleheader at Maloney Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED                         
  • The Gators went up 1-0 in the bottom of the first inning as Jackson Kritsch scored Jonah Gonzales from third on an RBI single to second.
  • SF State posted another run in the bottom of the second as Rudy Aguilar hit a bases-loaded sacrifice fly to right.
  • CSUSM took its first lead of the series in the top of the third inning at 3-2. Ricky Maytorena scored on an infield error before Luc Stuka scored Schuberg with a bunt on a fielder's choice. Ellis hit a one-out sacrifice fly to center to bring home Andrew Garcia for the third run of the inning.
  • The Gators knotted the game at 3-3 in the bottom of the fifth as Aguilar scored from third on a 6-4-3 double play by the Cougars.
  • SF State's big inning occurred in the bottom of the seventh with five runs on four hits. Kritsch hit a three-run homer to left before Richie Rios tallied two RBIs on a ground-rule double.
  • The Gators posted their final two runs in the bottom of the eighth as Gonzales scored on a Cougar throwing error before Trevor Rogers brought home Nick Upstill with a sacrifice fly to center.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • CSUSM took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first as Emilio Luna scored on an RBI fielder's choice by Luc Stuka.
  • SF State knotted the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the inning as Jackson Kritsch scored Jonah Gonzales from third with a sacrifice fly to left.
  • The Cougars went up 2-1 in the top of the third as Diaz scored on an infield error.
  • A bases-loaded wild pitch with one out scored the Gators' Marco Salvetti and tied the game at 2-2 in the bottom of the fourth.
  • The Cougars got out of a bases-loaded jam in the bottom of the seventh as a fly out to left kept the Gators' game-winning run on third.
  • With runners on first and second with one out in the bottom of the eighth, Nick Upstill delivered the walk-off hit for the Gators as Jason Hare scored the game-winning run from second base.
