CSUSM's Big Fourth Quarter Not Enough at SSU

ROHNERT PARK, Calif. – A 27-point fourth quarter wasn't enough as the RV/RV Cal State San Marcos women's basketball team dropped a 54-50 California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) decision at Sonoma State on Thursday night in The Wolves' Den.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Cougars got off to a slow start, trailing 13-7 after the first 10 minutes of action.
  • A strong post move by Vermillion cut SSU's lead to 17-16 with two minutes remaining in the second quarter.
  • The Seawolves ended the first half with a 19-16 lead over the Cougars.
  • CSUSM trailed 44-34 to the Seawolves at the final media timeout of the game.
  • A Forrester 3-pointer made it a five-point game at 44-39 with 3:38 on the clock.
  • A pass by Hackson to Forel, who drove down the middle of the lane before finishing with a flip into the basket, made it 48-44 with 1:07 remaining.
  • Another 3-pointer by Forrester made it 53-50 with four seconds remaining.
  • SSU's Ugochi Anuddkem sealed the win by making one of her two free throws to make it 54-50.
  • After scoring single digits in the first three quarters, the Cougars outscored SSU 27-18 in the fourth quarter.

FAST BREAKS
  • The Cougars fall to 14-4 (9-4 CCAA) while the Seawolves move up to 13-5 (9-4 CCAA).
  • UC San Diego has taken sole possession of first place in the CCAA standings after Cal State East Bay fell to Humboldt State tonight. There is now a three-way tie for second place between CSUSM, CSUEB and SSU.
  • The Cougars tallied a season-low four assists in the contest while shooting their third-lowest field-goal percentage at 36.4% (20-of-55).
  • SSU got 13 points off fast breaks while the Cougars notched only six.
  • The Seawolves led from wire-to-wire in the contest.
