HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Cougars found themselves trailing 6-1 in the opening set but bounced back with a 12-1 run for a 13-7 lead. CSUSM snagged a 25-21 victory to take a 1-0 lead.
- In the second set, both teams traded leads early before Newcombe and Aguilar posted a pair of kills each to propel CSUSM up 14-10. The Broncos closed the gap to one point twice late, but CSUSM prevailed with a 25-23 second set win to take a 2-0 lead.
- It was all CSUSM in the third set as the Cougars posted a .429 attack percentage with 14 kills on 28 attempts and only two errors.
