SAN MARCOS, Calif. – Women's golf, men's and women's track & field, softball and baseball will all be in action this week for Cal State San Marcos Athletics.

The No. 5 women's golf team will get the week started at the West Texas A&M Desert Invitational in Tucson, Arizona, on Monday and Tuesday.

Men's and women's track & field will head down to La Jola for the UC San Diego Triton Invitational on Friday and Saturday.

Softball will hit the road to face Humboldt State in a four-game set. Friday's doubleheader in Arcata will get underway at 1 p.m. while Saturday's twin bill is set for 11 a.m.

Baseball will play a home-and-home series against Cal State L.A. beginning on Friday at 3 p.m. in San Marcos. After Saturday's 3 p.m. game at home, the Cougars will travel up to Los Angeles for the final two games of the series against the Golden Eagles on Sunday at 1 p.m.

COUGAR UPDATE
- The fifth-ranked Cougars placed third among the nation's best at the CSUSM Fujikura Invitational on March 12.
- As a team, the Cougars shot a 23-over 599, one stroke behind then-No. 1 ranked Dallas Baptist.
- Jaime Jacob tied for third with a 1-over 143 with scores of 73-72.
- Jacob earned her third CCAA Golfer of the Week honor this season and her seventh in her career.
- Claire Hogle also placed in the top 10, finishing ninth with a 4-over 148.

WEST TEXAS A&M DESERT INVITATIONAL
- The Cougars placed third at last year's Desert Invitational, seven strokes behind St. Mary's and West Texas A&M who shared first-place honors with a 24-over 600.
- Jacob captured her third consecutive medalist honors, defeating St. Mary's Maria Regina Gonzalez by three strokes.
- This marks the third time CSUSM has competed in the Desert Invitational, finishing sixth in its inaugural appearance in 2017.

- Head coach Greg Hutton has been at the helm of the men's program since the 2010-11 season and was named the women's head coach in 2014.
- Under Hutton's leadership, the women's team won CSUSM's first CCAA Championship in school history in 2018.

- The Cougars took this past weekend off after a busy end of March at the Mike Fanelli Track Classic, the Stanford Invitationals and the California Collegiate Open.
- At the Mike Fanelli Track Classic, Jax Heckers posted an NCAA Divisional II Provisional time of 35:45.67 – the third-fastest time in program history.
- Betsabe Reyes once again broke her own record in the hammer throw with a mark of 46.61 meters at the California Collegiate Open – 1.31 meters further than her previous mark.
- Antonio Riggins broke the CSUSM school record in the triple jump at the Mike Fanelli Track Classic with a winning NCAA Provisional mark of 14.74 meters
- Ndoto Strong won the discus throw at the Mike Fanelli Track Classic with a season-best mark of 49.22 meters.

- The action will get underway with the hammer throw invitational, the discus throw invitational and the discus throw open on Friday beginning at 9:30 a.m.
- On Saturday, throwing events will commence at 9:30 a.m. while jumping events will get underway at 10 a.m.
- The day's track events will begin at 11:10 a.m. and end at 6:45 p.m.
- The Cougars have competed in all but one UC San Diego Triton Invitational since the program's inception in 2007.

THE OLSON FILE
- Head coach Torrey Olson begins his first season at the helm of the men's and women's track and field programs after taking over in the summer of 2018.
- Olson came to CSUSM after spending three seasons as the Director of Track & Field and Cross Country at the Academy of Art University where his teams earned 50-plus All-American honors.
- Olson served as the head cross country coach the previous three years at Academy of Art.
- In addition to the Academy of Art, Olson has also worked with the University of San Francisco and Pomona-Pitzer College.
- A graduate of Pomona College in 2009, Olson also holds an MFA from St. Mary's College (2012).

- HSU recorded a nonconference twin bill sweep on Sunday at Dominican by scores of 3-2 and 10-9.

- Head coach Stef Ewing enters her first season in charge of the Cougar softball season as the fourth head coach in program history.
- Ewing captured her first win as a collegiate head coach on Feb. 17th as the Cougars won 5-4 in a walk-off over Concordia Portland at CSUSM Softball Field.
- She previously served as the assistant coach at New Mexico State where she helped the Aggies to three WAC Regular Season Conference Championships and two WAC Conference Tournament Championships.Â

- Head coach Matt Guiliano enters his third season at the helm of the Cougars baseball program.
- Prior to making his way to San Marcos, Guiliano was the head coach for nine seasons (2008-16) at his alma mater Sioux Falls.
- Guiliano is a 2006 graduate of the University of Sioux Falls and a 2001 graduate of Valley Center High School.
