Chico State Takes Doubleheader Against Cougars

CHICO, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos baseball team fell by scores of 12-3 and 8-3 to Chico State in Saturday's California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) doubleheader at Nettleton Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • CSUSM scored first as Ott hit an RBI single to left and scored Näshéa Diggs in the third inning.
  • An RBI groundout by Chico's Turner Olson knotted the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the third inning.
  • The Wildcats posted a five-run inning in the fourth on a CSUSM throwing error, three RBI singles and an RBI groundout.
  • A Chico throwing error allowed Van Til to score and cut the deficit to 6-2 in the fifth.
  • The bottom of the fifth saw Tyler Stofiel hit an RBI single to score Michael Laiger and put the Wildcats up 7-2.
  • Rodriguez hit an RBI single and advanced to second on a Chico throwing error while Danny Johnson scored to decrease the deficit to 7-3 in the sixth.
  • After the Wildcats' plated another run with an RBI groundout in the sixth, Chico posted closed out the scoring in the eighth with a bases-loaded hit-by-pitch, a two-run single and an RBI single.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Cougars plated the first run of the game as Diggs scored on an RBI groundout by Austin Ott in the first inning.
  • An RBI single by Tyler Grissom in the bottom of the second scored Kyle Pineda and tied the game at 1-all.
  • A wild pitch in the bottom of the third scored Chico's Dustin Miller and gave the Wildcats a 2-1 lead.
  • Tyler Stofiel scored on an RBI groundout by Cody Wissler and put Chico up 3-1 in the fourth inning.
  • A CSUSM fielding error allowed Miller to score with two outs in the fifth inning and gave Chico a 4-1 lead.
  • A one-out base-loaded walk to Diggs scored and a sacrifice fly to center by Van Til cut the deficit to 4-3 in the sixth.
  • Chico took an 8-3 lead in the bottom of the sixth with a two-run double by Miller, an RBI double by Turner Olson and an RBI single by Jorge Perez.
