Cougars Split Series at Chico State with 5-2 Victory

SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos baseball team came away with a series split as it won the finale game of its four-game California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) set at Chico State by a score of 5-2 on Sunday at Nettleton Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Chico took an early 2-0 lead in the first inning on RBI singles by DeVito and Pineda.
  • A sacrifice bunt by Cabot Van Til scored Diggs in the third inning and trimmed the deficit to 2-1.
  • A two-run homer by Buck in the fifth gave CSUSM a 3-2 lead.
  • A bases-loaded walk by Anthony Rodriguez and an RBI single by Andrew Cowell put the Cougars up 5-2 over the Wildcats in the seventh.

  • CSUSM improved to 16-22 (12-20 CCAA) while Chico dropped to 17-13 (13-12 CCAA).
  • Lopez (3-2) earned the victory as he struck out two while allowing two runs on seven hits in seven innings.
