Cougars Win Nightcap, Split Doubleheader with CSUDH

CARSON, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos softball team bounced back with a 4-3 victory in the nightcap after dropping the first game 6-4 at Cal State Dominguez Hills in California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) action on Friday afternoon.
 
GAME 1: CSUDH 6 – CSUSM 4

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • A two-run homer to center by Forstie gave CSUSM a 2-0 lead in the top of the third inning.
  • CSUDH made it 2-1 on an RBI single by Jazmin Guzman in the bottom of the third.
  • Scardina answered in the top of the fourth with a solo home run to left to give CSUSM a two-run cushion once again at 3-1.
  • The Toros put together a five-run fifth inning to take a 6-3 lead over the Cougars.
  • Fisher's RBI single in the top of the sixth was CSUSM's final run of the game.

  • The Cougars fall to 12-30 (8-27 CCAA) while the Toros move up to 26-17 (20-15 CCAA).

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Wood crushed a three-run home run after CSUDH's starter put two on with walks in the opening frame.
  • CSUSM extended its lead in the top of the second to 4-0 when Andelin took advantage of a Toro error to plate Kat Calderon.
  • CSUDH closed the gap with three runs in the bottom of the second on a fielder's choice and a two-RBI single by Jazmin Guzman.
 
QUICK HITS
  • CSUSM improved to 13-30 (9-27) while CSUDH fell to 26-18 (20-16 CCAA).
  • Ellie Smith collected the win after entering the game in relief, tossing four shutout innings and allowing only two hits.
