Cougars Split Doubleheader, Win Series Against CSUSB

SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos baseball team earned its second consecutive series victory while splitting Saturday's doubleheader against Cal State San Bernardino at CSUSM Baseball Field. The Cougars fell 9-7 in the first game before taking the series finale 6-2.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Coyotes put up six runs in the second inning on three doubles, a single and a sacrifice fly.
  • The Cougars cut the deficit to 6-2 in the bottom of the second on an RBI single by Diggs and a sacrifice fly by Domenic Antonacci.
  • Buck made it 6-3 in the bottom of the third with an RBI double down the right field line.
  • CSUSB went up 8-3 in the top of the fourth inning as Richard Castro hit a two-run single down the left field line.
  • CSUSM cut CSUSB's lead to 8-5 in the bottom of the fourth on a Coyote error and a sacrifice bunt by Griffin Teisher.
  • Buck's 10th homer of the season put CSUSM down by one at 8-7 as he slugged a two-run blast to right.
  • Castro gave CSUSB a 9-7 lead in the top of the ninth on a solo shot to left center.

  • CSUSB went up 1-0 while grounding into a double play in the top of the second inning.
  • Rico hit a two-run single down the left field line in the bottom of the second before Anthony Rodriguez fouled out and earned an RBI as Cowell scored from third.
  • Richard Castro cut CSUSM's lead to 3-2 in the top of the foruth with a solo shot to right.
  • An RBI double by Diggs, an RBI single by Zach Schuberg and an RBI groundout by Austin Ott put CSUSM up 6-2 in the sixth inning.
