Cougars Split With No. 10 UC San Diego

SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos softball pitching staff of Skie Munoz and Caitlin Vinyard shined against No. 10 UC San Diego on Friday afternoon in California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) action. The Cougars dropped game one 1-0 before bouncing back with 2-0 victory over the Tritons.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Tritons' leadoff hitter Keila Bossinger went yard in the opening frame to put UCSD up 1-0.
  • The Cougars got out of a bases-loaded jam in the first inning by breaking up a sacrifice fly with a double play by centerfielder Ronni Silas.  
  
QUICK HITS
  • The Cougars fall to 11-27 (7-24 CCAA) while the Tritons improve to 27-9 (20-6 CCAA).
  • UCSD's Robyn Wampler (15-5) tossed a no-hitter to earn the win, tallying nine strikeouts and walking none.
  • Munoz took the loss despite only allowing three hits and walking two.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • CSUSM took a quick 1-0 lead in the first inning after LeClair hit a Texas League single to left and later scored on a UCSD error.
  • Forstie led off the sixth with a double to left center and scored on Fisher's single up the middle to make it 2-0.
 
QUICK HITS
  • With the win, the Cougars (12-27, 8-24 CCAA) move above Cal State East Bay in the conference rankings.
  • The Tritons fall to 27-10 overall and 20-7 in CCAA play.
  • Vinyard (6-7) pitched a two-hit shutout for the win, striking out two while walking one batter.
  • UCSD's Alanna Phillips (8-4) took the loss after allowing two runs on six hits.
