Cougars Drop 4-3, 8-7 Decisions at HSU

MCKINLEYVILLE, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos softball team dropped both ends of Friday's twin bill at Humboldt State by scores of 4-3 and 8-7 on McKinleyville High School's softball field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Jacks took advantage of a CSUSM error to push two runs across in the third inning.
  • Fisher crushed a solo home run to right center to put CSUSM on the board in the fourth.
  • Knocking out a leadoff single in the fifth, Machrone scored on Forstie's RBI single to third after advancing on two groundouts to even the game at 2-2.
  • LeClair hit a two-out double to right center and later scored on Machrone's single to third base to give CSUSM its first lead of the game at 3-2 in the sixth.
  • The Jacks knocked in two runs in the bottom of the seventh to collect the win at 4-3.
 
QUICK HITS
  • The Cougars dropped to 11-23 (7-20 CCAA) while the Jacks moved up to 16-23 (7-20).
  • Ellie Smith took the loss after going 6.2 innings, giving up four runs (three earned) on five hits and striking out five.
  • HSU's Lexee Sheiring collected the win after tallying eight strikeouts and allowing only three runs.  
  • CSUSM's 13 hits were the second highest of the season behind the Cougars' 18 at San Francisco State on March 9.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Andelin led off the game with a double and later scored on Forstie's single to right to give CSUSM a 1-0 lead in the opening frame.
  • Jacks went up 2-1 in the bottom of the second on two unearned runs.
  • Andelin's two-RBI triple to right center in the second put CSUSM back up 3-2.
  • The Jacks pushed four runs across on four hits in the bottom of the third to take a 7-3 lead.
  • Forstie crushed a three-RBI triple to right to knot the game at 7-7 in the top of the sixth.
  • The Jacks scored on a wild pitch to collect the win.
 
QUICK HITS
  • The Cougars fall to 11-24 (7-21 CCAA) while the Jacks improve to 17-23 (8-20).
  • Carly Slack (3-5) took the loss after relinquishing six runs on seven hits over 5.1 innings.
  • HSU's Jasmine Hill earned the win after one inning in relief.
